Striking. Beautiful. Captivating. Frightening.
It’s hard to encapsulate the spectrum of emotions that this remarkable installation evokes in a mere one or two words. Javier Perez created this beautiful work of art featuring ballerina Amélie Ségarra, dancing en pointe, on knives. Yes, knives.
To top it all off, she performs the awe inspiring and agonizing dance on a grand piano. A gripping feat of strength, you just can’t tear your eyes away, even when she’s crying out in pain. I’m not sure whether it is part of the performance or true real fear and agony, but it doesn’t matter. Watching it was as intense as a thriller movie– I was on the edge of my seat during the whole short film.
The difference is that unlike a movie, you know that she is performing it without any sort of visual effect. It’s just her and her incredible talent.
