TRAVEL // HOME DECOR SHOPPING IN PORTLAND

Besides being a mecca of scrumptious donuts and other delicious foods, Portland is also chock-full of small, home decor stores that carry local and hard-to-find brands. Not only are the stores chock-full of sweet stuff, it’s all wonderfully curated with things you wouldn’t find at Ikea or your neighborhood West Elm. Here are three of my fave stores that I saw in Portland and trust me, it took every ounce of self control not to go on a wild shopping spree! (Only having a carry-on also helped in that department!)

First up, woonwinkel. I’m a huge fan of Scandinavian design, and woonwinkel carries a lot of it. It’s heaven.

White walls and colorful, modern products? YES.

They carry one of my favorite Danish brands, ferm LIVING, which means POINTS!

They even have slingshots. I mean, what’s not to love? Want to learn more about the store? Check out their interview on Design Milk.

Next up, canoe.

Oh, canoe. Purveyor of “simple, beautiful, and functional objects that can be used and enjoyed everyday.” And they definitely live up to their mission.

Whether you’re decorating your office or home, it provides fresh, modern designs that are meant to be valued possessions.

I never knew I needed bud vases until I went to canoe.

They also have a fabulous shelfie. Matte black, bronze, white and wood is everything I love.

Last up, Alder & Co. I DIE.

They have an amazing floral section that I just want to roll around it.

I have to say, I got really confused because there were so many things that started with the word Alder. I thought maybe they were owned by one master corporation, but turns out, everyone just loves naming their stores/restaurants with Alder (the name of a street).

Unfortunately, since my visit was so short, I didn’t have the chance to explore any more stores! Probably a good thing…

Any other home decor stores you love in Portland? I’d love to know for my next trip!
