What’s the best way to start the New Year? Watching The Black Keys forget to count down at midnight in Vegas. But, don’t worry; they counted down 2 times after the clock struck with some classy, pink champagne. You have to hand it to them for the most memorable NYE yet.
Nevertheless, The Black Keys rang in 2013 with electrifying energy! The two-night event was held at the all-too-appropriate Hard Rock Hotel. Even with the rest of the band behind them, there was no finer and more apparent chemistry between two band members than Dan and Pat. Dan playing his guitar as an extension to his own body and Pat going buck wild with a drum set that could knock your own heart rhythm off beat. In any case, even the City of Sin wasn’t prepared for this dynamic duo to rock the new year away, literally! Look out for a performance from The Black Keys at the 55th Grammy Awards on Feb 10! They are nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, and Producer of the Year (Dan Auerbach).

1. Their band name is derived from a schizophrenic mutual acquaintance/artist who would leave incoherent messages on their answering machines referring to their fathers as “black keys” such as “D flat” when he was upset with them.*

3. Both of them made a living mowing lawns and whacking weeds for a slumlord after they dropped out of college. They ended up getting fired for not edging a lawn correctly.* We would definitely have to say that they’ve come a long way since then.
