STATE BIRD PROVISIONS (IT’S SO HOT RIGHT NOW)

San Francisco looooves restaurants. As much as I try to keep up with all the hot and happening restos of SF, I’ve long given up trying to stay ahead of the game because it’s just. so. ridiculously. hard. And expensive. And lots of waiting in line. Or eating at 10pm.

One of the restaurants that embodies all of these qualities? State Bird Provisions. Of course I’m moaning and groaning, but there’s clearly a reason why it’s so in. It’s written up in all the foodie newsletters and everyone always talks about it– there’s even “techies trying to hack the reservation process.” Can it be anymore Silicon Valley? So of course, being the sucker I am, I wanted to try it. Thankfully, Ryan was kind enough to wake up at 5am a few times to hit up Open Table to get us a decent reservation. And so that fateful Thursday night at 7:30pm, I finally ate at the highly lauded SBP.

And you know what? I was totally one of those people. One of those people who toted their heavy DSLR to the restaurant and shot photos like their life depended on it. But it was totally worth all the potential judgement and glares from customers because beautiful food deserves beautiful pictures. And now I can share it with you if you don’t plan on waking up at 5am to make a reservation or wait in line for 3 hrs. PS: that uni pancake (above) was amazing. Top right // steak tartare ‘caesar’ lettuce cups.

1/2 dozen cast iron quail eggs, apple, sunchokes & mt. tam. One part of why State Bird Provisions is popular is because they serve their food “dim sum” style, and it totally works. People love it.

One of the star dishes for me was the bone marrow. I have never seen such a beautifully styled bone marrow that also tasted as good as it looked. It seriously looked like Christmas.

Fried garlic bread with burrata. OMGOMGOMG. A picture collage is worth 1,000 words. Shit just got real with this fried garlic bread with BURRATA.

I forgot what this was, but most importantly, I did remember that it was fantastic.

Halibut-avocado & seaweed cracker. That was one crispy seaweed cracker. YUM.

These ice cream sandwiches were out of this world. What I liked most was that it wasn’t cloyingly sweet– in fact it had a bit of a spiced flavor to it. The sandwich part was especially light and airy, almost like a macaron. Amazing!

Now after seeing these photos, I’m really interested in knowing…. Would you try and go to State Bird Provisions?
